Duncan Lowery, Senior Investment Manager

Duncan joined IP Group in 2009 to head up the Group’s Newcastle-based team, managing the Finance for Business North East Technology Fund. Duncan has been involved in venture capital fund management since 2000 and has led numerous transactions, ranging from seed through MBO and secondary buy out, across a range of sectors. He has also been deeply involved in fund raising, limited partnership formation and management, has served on the Boards of two General Partners and a number of portfolio companies. Duncan graduated from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne with a Masters in Industrial Biotechnology and a BSc in Medical Microbiology. He is an FSA Approved Person, holds the FSA Investment Management Certificate and the Diploma in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors.

Nick Edgar, Investment Manager

Nick is an investment manager in the Group’s Newcastle-based team which manages the Finance for Business North East Technology Fund. Nick has a wealth of transactional experience in venture and mezzanine investing across more than 30 companies. A chartered accountant by background, Nick loves working with both fledgling and mature businesses, having previously worked with NEL Fund Managers and Ernst & Young. He is currently board observer on a range of exciting early-stage portfolio businesses in diverse sectors including software and digital, cleantech and advanced manufacturing. Nick is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland and holds a finance-specific MBA from Manchester University.

Ian Wilson, Investment Manager

Ian is an investment manager in the Group’s Newcastle-based team which manages the Finance for Business North East Technology Fund. Ian joined IP Group having spent time in industry with a local private equity backed technology company where he held the role of Financial Analyst and Company Secretary. Ian started his career in public sector finance working for a local NHS Primary Care Trust. Having trained as a Chartered Accountant with Grant Thornton UK LLP, working with a large portfolio of SME clients, Ian spent two years in Ernst & Young’s Corporate Finance team in the north of England where he advised on deals across a range of sectors including private equity backed transactions, acquisitions and disposals. Ian holds a BA (Hons) in Accountancy from the University of Northumbria and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Viv Walsh, Office Manager

Viv joined the Newcastle office of IP Group in March 2010 as Office Manager. She previously worked as Operations Manager at Metastorm Ltd responsible for coordinating 250 people across global operations in addition to licence management for over 1000 customers.
